Course Information

 What will I be learning?

Anxiety and stress continue to dominate people’s lives once in the grip of its power. It can seem like the worlds hostilities are never ending but anxiety is often more manageable than we realise.

Come along to one of our courses and explore why this is and gain valuable knowledge and tools to help you.

You will learn how to use the tools that are provided during course work to record and evaluate and initiate your own sensitively and carefully planned programme, based on the insights that you gain from completing the activities set.

Does the course lead to a qualification?

No, it doesn’t lead to a qualification but you will have informal assessments to monitor your progress.

What does the course involve?

The course is a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) based programme. It will use measuring and monitoring tools to help you look at and evaluate your own behaviours.

  • You will work your way through a booklet provided by Derby Adult Learning (DALS). This programme is delivered by permission of Trent Psychological Services and enhanced by the knowledge of experienced DALS tutors, who have a specialism and lived experience of mental health and wellbeing.
  • Enrichment activities and learning will be provided to support the course objectives.

Who is the course for?

The course is for anyone who wants to take time out to explore if they can make changes to their behaviours which will help improve their wellbeing.

What do I need to bring?

All materials are provided

Are there any additional costs?

How will I know how I am progressing during the course?

Feedback will be given, both verbally and by the evaluation of completed tasks & projects.  You will receive verbal feedback on the results of your practical exercises.

There is no formal exam, although there is continual evaluation throughout the course.

Towards the end of each session you will use a DerbyLearn forum to record what you have done in class and comment on how you think you got on.  Before the next session your tutor will reply with their feedback.  This is a very good method of recording your own progress, reflecting on the session and a great way to receive motivation from your tutor.

Can I have help in the class?

If you would like to enrol on this course but think you need help in the class you  support can be accessed through the Learning Partners Scheme. The scheme matches learners who need additional help with a volunteer to attend the class together. Volunteers can help with confidence, practical tasks such as cutting or measuring, reading and taking notes or communicating with the tutor and other learners.

If you would like more information about the scheme please contact Pat Ward on 01332 642308 o
