What will I be learning?

This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 5 years of age. It prepares learners for work in a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas: crèches, early year’s nurseries, children’s centres and other pre-school settings.

 On the course you will learn about: 

  • Promoting Health and well-being for children 0-5 years through the provision of food and nutrition and physical exercise.
  • Understand and follow policies and procedures in relation to health and safety, safeguarding, equality, inclusion, diversity and working in partnership.
  • Understand, plan and promote play opportunities in Early Years to support children’s learning and development.
  • Develop children’s emergent Literacy and Mathematical skills and support transition to school.
  • Use longitudinal studies to observe, assess and plan for children’s needs

 The course is made up of classroom taught knowledge and assessments of competence in childcare settings. You will be set weekly tasks to complete throughout the course to build up your portfolio of childcare knowledge. In addition you will be assigned an assessor who will visit you in your placement to carry out observations of skills in the workplace.

 Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on a practical placement as an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situation.

 Learners enrolling on this course will need to organise 350 hours paid or voluntary work placement (recommended over three age groups).

0–1 year 11 months- 25 Hours

2–2 years 11 months- 133 Hours

3–5 years- 192 Hours

Does the course lead to a qualification? 

CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) (QCF)

 Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone who works or wants to work in a Childcare setting with children under 5 years of age,

Ideally learners will have a GCSEs grade C or above in Maths and English before they enrol on the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce. Learners who do not have these qualifications will need to demonstrate that they have sufficient competence in written and spoken English to meet the evidence requirements for the course.  

Learners who do not have English and Maths at GCSE level will be required to attend English and Maths sessions in addition to the CACHE level 3.

Anyone wishing to enrol on this course will need to attend a Childcare initial assessment session prior to the course starting to ensure that this is an appropriate course for them and that they understand the course requirements.

Learners will be required to use an e-portfolio. Full instruction on how to use this will be given by the tutor but learners will need to have basic computer skills.

What do I need to bring?

You will need to bring a pen and folder and copies of your qualifications and DBS Check.

Are there any additional costs?

The course costs £2,882 and is eligible for funding through an advanced learning loan.

This price includes registration and certification with CACHE there are no additional costs for this course

When is the course?

The taught component of the course will be Friday 9:30 -12:30pm for 18 months

 How will I know how I am progressing during the course?

Learners will keep a reflective diary recording their progress.

You will receive regular individual feedback from your tutor both and verbally and formally in tutorials
