What will I be learning?
This course is an introduction to the main aspects of the field, where learners will have the opportunity to understand the science of psychology and how psychologists measure mental function and behaviour. We will discuss perception and consciousness and the mysteries of sleep and dreams. Through child development, they will understand how the brain is ready for learning and pre-wired for language. Motivation, cognition and personality will be analysed through the prism of past and current psychological theories. We will attempt to take a look in the complex world of the brain and review the most common disorders and dysfunctions.

This couse involves a presentation of theories and studies of the main aspects and research areas of psychology and active learning activities, where possible.

Everyone who is interesting in learning more about the human mind and behaviour
What do I need to bring?
Pen and notebook.
Are there any additional costs?
How will I know how I am progressing during the course?
Feedback will be given, both verbally and by the evaluation of completed tasks & projects. You will receive verbal feedback on the results of your practical exercises.
There is no formal exam, although there is continual evaluation throughout the course.
Towards the end of each session you will use a DerbyLearn forum to record what you have done in class and comment on how you think you got on. Before the next session your tutor will reply with their feedback. This is a very good method of recording your own progress, reflecting on the session and a great way to receive motivation from your tutor.

From the city centre head towards Kedleston Road along King Street and Garden Street. At the 'Five Lamps' traffic lights on Garden Street you will see a sign for the Rycote Centre, turn left down Parker Street then turn right and the Centre is on the right hand side, parking is on the street and the main entrance is through the Social Service's car park. The Centre can also be accessed from Kedleston Road - opposite the Polish Club - but there is no parking at this entrance other than on Kedleston Road 01332 717930 or 717924
