Course Information

What will I be learning?

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is a knowledge-based introduction to teaching and /or training.

You will be learning the following:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners
  • How to sequence learning, plan and deliver sessions using appropriate resources and teaching methods
  • How to identify the characteristics of effective assessment and feedback

The course is designed to enable you to adopt an integrated approach to the theory and practice of teaching.  It will allow you to reflect on your own previous/current levels of experience, practice and skills and areas for development and to develop confidence, communication and inter-personal skills.

Does the course lead to a qualification?

The course leads to a City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Education and Training which is an introduction to teaching and not a full teaching qualification.

Who is the course for?

Candidates who:

  •  work or want to work as teachers/tutors/trainers in the further education and skills sector
  •  are not in a teaching/training role or who have just started a teaching//training role
  •  want a short qualification to enable them to make career choices
  •  have completed Trainer skills and want to develop their skills further

All learners must attend an initial assessment before enrolment onto the course.  Please telephone the helpline 01332 717900 or email enquiries@derbyals.org to arrange this assessment.

Please note, this course is not for those wishing to teach in mainstream compulsory school education – it is for those interested in teaching or training in the post 14 further education and skills sector.

Minimum age is 19 years.

What do I need to bring?

Bring a pen and paper; the tutor will give you a list of books which it would be helpful to read.

Are there any additional costs?

The course fee is approximately £360.00 and the exam registration fee is approximately £55 for this qualification, which has to be paid within the first three weeks of the course.

How will I know how I am progressing during the course?

Your tutor will give you verbal feedback throughout the course.

Written and verbal feedback will be given after each of the assignments you need to complete to meet the requirements of the awarding organisation.

What support services are there?

If you would like to enrol on this course but think you will need some help in the class you could have support through the Learning Partners Scheme. The scheme matches learners who need additional help with a volunteer to attend the class together. Volunteers can help with confidence, practical tasks such as cutting or measuring, reading and taking notes or communicating with the tutor and other learners.

If you would like more information about the scheme please contact Pat Ward 642308
