Course Information

Are you travelling to an Arabic speaking country such as Dubai, Tunisia, Egypt or Morocco this summer?

If you are, this could be the course for you.

What will I be learning?

This course will focus on basic holiday information for travel to Arabic speaking countries:

  • To speak basic Arabic language in limited predictable holiday situations
  • To be understood by a sympathetic native speaker

The focus will be on speaking and listening e.g. greeting people, holiday tips, cultural information, ordering food, hotel, travel – basic holiday communication.

Does the course lead to a qualification?

No, it doesn’t lead to a qualification but you will have informal assessments to monitor your progress.

Who is the course for?

Anybody who is interested in Arabic, anyone who holidays or is planning to travel in Arabic speaking countries and who wants to have an idea about the language. Suitable for total beginners.

What do I need to bring?

For the first lesson, please bring the following with you:

  • A notepad if you want to take notes, a pen and pencil

Are there any additional costs?

No additional costs - just the fees.

How will I know how I am progressing during the course?

Feedback will be given, both verbally and by the evaluation of completed tasks & projects.  You will receive verbal feedback on the results of your practical exercises.

There is no formal exam, although there is continual evaluation throughout the course.

Towards the end of each session you will use a DerbyLearn forum to record what you have done in class and comment on how you think you got on.  Before the next session your tutor will reply with their feedback. This is a very good method of recording your own progress, reflecting on the session and a great way to receive motivation from your tutor.

Can I have help in the class?

If you would like to enrol on this course but think you will need some help in the class you could have support through the Learning Partners Scheme. The scheme matches learners who need additional help with a volunteer to attend the class together. Volunteers can help with confidence, practical tasks such as cutting or measuring, reading and taking notes or communicating with the tutor and other learners.

If you would like more information about the scheme, please contact Pat Ward on 01332 642308
