Who is this course for

If you are interested in gaining a GCSE English qualification, get a head start and find out more with our introduction course.  It will support you with development of skills, whilst learning about some of the topics in the GCSE syllabus. It will also support your confidence to start the GCSE qualification course in September.

What are the entry requirements

This course will be most suitable for those who have recently completed a Level 1 Functional Skills qualification or have a GCSE English grade 3, grade D or equivalent.
Initial assessment will be included in the course.

What will I be learning

Together with your tutor, you will decide which learning areas you need to work on to meet your individual skills gaps.  There will be a focus on the underpinning skills needed to succeed at GCSE level but could include:
Reading fluently
Writing effectively
Using figurative language
Analysing text
Building on your communication skills

How will I be assessed and supported

You will not have any formal assessments, but you will use an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set and review targets.  You will also receive feedback, enabling continual reflection and evaluation throughout the course. You will use your ILP to help track and monitor your own progress towards set goals, to support personal development and achievement.

What do I need to bring?

You will need the following things for your course:
An A4 folder to organise your work.
Pens
An A4 lined paper pad.
