Who is this course for

If your first language is not English and you want to gain the skills and knowledge needed to work in catering, hospitality or customer service, this course is for you.
It is ideal for ESOL learners who need confidence for employability and to improve their English skills too.

What are the entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course, you need to be interested in working in a catering, hospitality or customer service.
You also need to be able to spend around 2 hours per week outside the classroom, carrying out activities and tasks.

What will I be learning

This course is based in our Better Together Cafe in the Council House. You will work in the cafe to prepare and serve food and drink, cleaning and dealing with customers.

On this course you will learn about:
Food safety requirements.
Customer service skills.
Working in a catering environment.
We will learn the technical vocabulary used in catering and you will practice your speaking and listening serving customers in the cafe.
At the end of the course, we can help you to write a CV, application form, and look for job vacancies.

How will I be assessed and supported

You will have an Individual Learning Plan to set and review targets and provide feedback, enabling continual reflection and evaluation throughout the course. You will also receive verbal and written feedback on marked work and practical tasks. You will use your ILP to help track and monitor your own progress towards set goals, to support personal development and achievement.

What do I need to bring?

You will need to bring a pen and folder.
