Who is this course for

This is a hands-on course designed to teach you how to bring old or broken laptops back to life.
You’ll learn how to assess, repair, clean, upgrade, and reinstall essential software on used devices.
This course is perfect if you enjoy working with technology, want to learn practical IT repair skills, or are looking for a way to help reduce e-waste and support digital inclusion.
It is suitable for those with little to no technical background.

What are the entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.
Please note, you will need to use a screwdriver and work with circuit boards and components which could have sharp edges.

What will I be learning

You’ll gain real world skills in PC and laptop repair and refurbishment through practical, workshop based sessions, including
Laptop Diagnostics and Safety
Learn how to handle hardware safely
Open and inspect laptops
Diagnose common issues
Hardware Repair and Upgrades
Replace or upgrade hard drives, RAM, and batteries
Clean internal components
Test and replace components such as fans
Reassemble and test for performance
Software Configuration
Set up essential drivers and software
Configure devices for reuse or donation
Learn about data security and secure wiping

Learn how refurbished tech can support your community

How will I be assessed and supported

There is no formal assessment.
Your progress will be demonstrated through participation in discussions,  practical hands on activities and an Individual Learning Plan.
The tutor will support you throughout the course.
