Who is this course for

This course is great for parents, caregivers, and families who want to better understand how artificial intelligence AI is shaping modern family life.

It is suitable for those with little to no technical background and is aimed at helping families make informed, responsible decisions about using AI tools at home.

What are the entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.

What will I be learning

You will explore how AI impacts everyday life, especially in a family setting by
Understanding what AI is and how it works in simple terms.
Exploring the use of AI in the home e.g., smart assistants, parental controls, learning apps
Identifying the benefits and risks of AI in family life, including privacy, screen time, and digital safety.
Learning how to use AI responsibly and set healthy boundaries with children.
You will also be able to try out practical tools like Derby City Council’s AI digital helper, Darcie

How will I be assessed and supported

There is no formal assessment.

Progress will be demonstrated through participation in discussions, hands on activities, family-focused scenarios and an Individual Learning Plan.
