Who is this course for

This qualification is designed for learners who wish to explore  art and design concepts and materials

What are the entry requirements

You should be able to speak and write in English.
You might find it helpful if you have already achieved an Entry level qualification or have successfully attended a DALS drawing or painting class.
It is expected that you will attend this course regularly each week to be able to commit to successful completion and achieve your Certificate.

What will I be learning

To be awarded the NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Art and Design, learners are required to successfully complete two mandatory units and two optional units.
Unit 1  Experiment with art and design ideas and techniques.
Unit 2  Complete a final art and design project.
Unit 3 Create art and design work using 2-dimensional techniques.
Unit 4  Create art and design work using mixed media techniques.

How will I be assessed and supported

You will complete four practical assessments, one per each unit. Your tutor will give you feedback on both your preparatory work and on your formal assessments, verbally and in writing.
Feedback from your tutor, will support your learning in your artistic skills development.

What do I need to bring?

In this course, we will collect our four assessments in an A4 ring-binder folder.
For your creative work, you will need either an A4 or an A3 sketchbook.
Your tutor will give you more specific information at the beginning of your course.
List of commonly used supplies.
Dry supplies: pencils, charcoal, coloured pencils and pastels.
Wet supplies: watercolours, acrylic paints, oil paints.
Equipment/tools: sketching paper, watercolour paper, acrylic paper, canvas and brushes.

There is a registration and exam fee of £59.00 with the exam board

You may be eligible for a fee remission if you're claiming eligible benefits or on a low wage. Our staff will confirm this when you complete your initial assessment before enrolling

NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Art and Design

It may also be useful to learners studying qualifications in the following sectors: Junior role in animation, ceramic design, community art classes, fine arts, fashion, graphic design, web design and textile design.
