What are the entry requirements

Learners who do not already have this qualification will be assessed for English prior to enrolment on the course.
Anyone wishing to enrol on this course will need to attend an initial assessment session prior to the course starting to ensure that this is an appropriate course for them and that they understand the course requirements.
Learners will use an e-portfolio. Full instruction on how to use this will be given by the tutor but learners will need to have basic computer skills.

What will I be learning

The Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning provides learners with an understanding of the knowledge needed when working directly with children and young people in a school or college environment.

The course is made up of classroom taught knowledge and assessments of competence in childcare settings.
You will be set weekly tasks to complete throughout the course to build up a portfolio of knowledge evidence.
In addition, you will be assigned an assessor who will visit you in your placement to carry out observations of skills in the workplace.
The units you will cover on this course are:
Schools and colleges as organisations
Support health and safety in a learning environment
Understand how to safeguard children and young people
Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults
Understand how children and young people develop
Support positive behaviour in children and young people
Support children and young people during learning activities
Support English and Maths skills

Engage in personal and professional development
Learners enrolling on the certificate course will need to organise a paid or voluntary work placement (ideally over two age groups).
The awarding body requirement for this qualification is 100 hours placement time, however, we recommend that learners aim to complete around 250 hours over the duration of the course as this will give you more experience and knowledge and will allow assessors to assess your competence in practice more thoroughly.
