Course Information

This is an online course taught via Zoom

What will I be learning?

Would you like to know more about how digital skills can help you get on in work and life but are unsure where to start and need the help of an expert tutor to show you how? Then this ‘hands on’, practical course is just for you.

The course is delivered between 1-3pm every Tuesday and depending on how fast you progress, will last between 3-6 weeks. It is delivered remotely on Zoom video software, so you will need access to a computer and the internet to start. But you will be given information and any support you need to successfully access Zoom. As the situation with Covid-19 changes there may be the opportunity for further use of DALS ICT resources and extra support in one of our Work Clubs.

The course consists of ‘Own Learning Goals’ that cover the basics of how to use ICT for personal use and to apply for jobs, you will discuss these with the tutor at the start of the course.

Some of the topics you will cover are as follows:

  • Use the internet to search for information on various sites
  • Use job sites and apply for jobs
  • Use emails to send and receive messages
  • Identify your skills and motivations and how you can promote yourself to employers
  • Advice on formatting documents, for example CVs.

Does the course lead to a qualification?

No, but you can progress to other DALS courses to further develop your skills.

Who is the course for?

Anyone who wants to develop their digital skills so they can be more effective in applying for jobs and become more digitally productive in the work place.

What do I need?

  • A folder, pen and paper. Your tutor will provide you with any necessary handouts via email.

To connect to your online course via Zoom, you will need:

  • An electronic device of your choice connected to the Internet
  • An email address
  • Headphones or speakers and microphone (these can be built into your device)

Are there any additional costs?

No additional costs

How will I know how I am progressing during the course?

At DALS, we use an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set and review targets and provide feedback, enabling continual reflection and evaluation throughout the course. Learners will also receive verbal and/or written feedback on marked work. Learners will use their ILP to help track and monitor their own progress towards set goals, to support personal development and achievement.

Can I have help in the class?

At enrolment, it is important that you tell us if you have a learning difficulty or disability and require support. Learners declaring a support need will be referred for an assessment. If an enhanced support need is confirmed, a Support Package will be offered, to assist your progress in your learning and development, specific to your assessed needs.
