This is an online course taught via Zoom

What will I be learning?

The course will include using maths in practical situations which incorporates aspects of:

    Number:

  • add, subtract, multiply, divide, round

   Measures, Shape and Space:

  • area, length, weight and capacity, money, 2-D and 3-D shapes

   Handling Data:

  • lists, tables and diagrams, graphs, charts and pictograms, collect and record numerical information, organise and represent data

and a whole lot more! The functional maths qualification will also include non-calculator and calculator methods.

Does the course lead to a qualification?

The course leads to a City and Guilds functional skills qualification at levels 1 and 2

Who is the course for?

The course is for learners wanting to improve their maths skills and achieve a recognised qualification.

What do I need?

A folder, pen and paper. Your tutor will provide you with all the necessary handouts.

Additional maths equipment such as a calculator, rule, protractor

To connect to your online course via Zoom, you will need:

  • An electronic device of your choice connected to the Internet
  • An email address  
  • Headphones or speakers and microphone (these can be built into your device)

Are there any additional costs?

IMPORTANT - Key Change to Functional Skills Exams There will now be a requirement for candidates to pay for resit Functional Skills exams (maths, English and ICT).

This will include anyone who does not arrive for their first exam - in these instances you must pay for the second and any subsequent exams in the same subject.

The fees must be paid 21 days prior to the exam.

The cost will be £17.00

How will I know how I am progressing during the course?

At DALS, we use an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set and review targets and provide feedback, enabling continual reflection and evaluation throughout the course. Learners will also receive verbal and/or written feedback on marked work. Learners will use their ILP to help track and monitor their own progress towards set goals, to support personal development and achievement.

Can I have help in the class?

At enrolment, it is important that you tell us if you have a learning difficulty or disability and require support. Learners declaring a support need will be referred for an assessment. If an enhanced support need is confirmed, a Support Package will be offered, to assist your progress in your learning and development, specific to your assessed needs.
