Course Information

Signature Level 2 Certificate in British Sign Language (LRMV L30102)

What will I be learning?

This qualification is designed to enable learners to develop their skills to communicate with Deaf People using British Sign Language (BSL) in a range of everyday situations. The qualification will allow learners to participate in longer and more varied conversations than at Level 1. The course will develop communication in BSL about real life, routine, and daily experiences.  The learner will be able to deal with most routine communication and have enough understanding of grammar to cope with some non-routine communication. Learners will be taught a number of regional variations in sign language.

The qualification has been designed to be consistent with the National Language Standards at Level 2.

Does the course lead to a qualification?

Yes – Signature Level 2 Certificate in British Sign Language.

There will be three units to achieve to gain the full qualification.  Assessments are included in the 102 Guided Learning Hours for the course.

Unit 201 – Receptive BSL – assessed by answering multiple choice questions on a filmed narrative.

Unit 202 – Productive BSL – assessed by the candidate giving a short presentation to camera.

Unit 203 – Conversational BSL – assessed by a conversation with a native BSL user.

Who is the course for?

This course is for learners wishing to build on their basic BSL skills to an intermediate level to improve communication with Deaf people.

The learner may be Deaf and wish to gain a qualification in their native language.

What do I need to bring?

Pen and paper for notes

Are there any additional costs?
